We left home at 9:39am and headed for Coffs.
The weather was overcast. It pissed down once we entered NSW. At one stage you struggled to see the truck 50meters in front.
The one good thing was that the traffic was light.
We unpacked and relaxed during the afternoon. Last time, we stayed here there were upto 8 water dragons, but this time they didn't show, probably wrong time of the year.
The motel room was very good.
We had egg and bacon pie for dinner, which Marg made last night, before we left. It was YUMMA. (Brian, just for you)
Tomorrow, we head for Newcastle.
Our route from Home to Aquajet Motel, Coffs, NSW - 325 kms.
We left home at 8:14am and headed for Newcastle.
The weather was overcast, but clearing. Completely different to yesterday's rain.
The traffic was still very light.
We unpacked and relaxed during the afternoon. Marg visited the smoking room, while I laid on the bed watching telly and relaxing.
The motel room was very good.
We had the rest of the egg and bacon pie for dinner. It was still YUMMA. (Brian )
Tomorrow, we head for Canberra.
Our route from Coffs to Reign Inn Motel, Newcastle, NSW - 381 kms.
We left home at 8:12am and headed for Canberra.
The weather was cloudy, which was a pleasant surprise.
The traffic was still light, but still flowing as we went through the NorthConnex tunnel.
We unpacked and relaxed during the afternoon. Marg's brother Paul and sister Rae and Paul's wife Jenny, were also staying at our Caravan Park, so we walked past 6 cabins to their cabin and spent the rest of the arvo chatting and drinking coffee. One of the attractions at this park, is that they have a Tavern (Monaro Tavern) and the 5 of us visited there for dinner.
I had a Parma and it was YUMMA (Brian ). Everyone enjoyed their meals. After dinner, we headed back to our own cabins for a good night sleep.
The cabins were bloody great. PS: I forgot to take photos.. I am a dickhead.
Tomorrow, we celebrate Chris and Maree's 50th Wedding Anniversary.
It has been a number of years since we physically have seen Marg's family.
For something different, we drove over to the closest Maccas for Brekky... We can't break a routine.
After brekky, we drove to the Southern Cross Club to see where it was, as I was driving to and from the Club later today. Back at our cabin, we visited Paul's cabin and then managed a nanna nap before getting ready for tonight's party.
We left our cabin at 6pm for a 6:30pm start at the Club. When we arrived at the Club I drove into the Club's carpark, but it was full.. Bugger.
So I dropped Marg at the front door and went looking for a parking spot, luckily over the road was a Westfield shopping centre, so I parked the mighty Navara there and walked back to the Club.
The Club is huge with many rooms big enough to hold our party. I eventually asked the concierge who showed me where to go.
I walked into the room and saw Marg and her family.
I re-introduced myself to many of the family as I haven't seen Chris's children for many, many years. Now their eldest is close to 49yo.
The meals were excellent and it was a great night. Marg had a ball, catching up with various family members and Maree's family which she hadn't seen for many years. We left just before 10:30pm and headed back to our cabin.
I forgot to tell you that there were dead roos on the side of the road, so driving back, I was super alert.
Bed felt really nice.
Today was also Marg and mine anniversary... only 47 years.
Happy Anniversary to my darling Petal.
50th Anniversary Invitation.
For something different, we drove over to the closest Maccas for Brekky... We can't break a routine.
After brekky, we drove to the Mount Ainslie Lookout.
It was a very picturesque drive, about 10kms from CP.
We parked and checked out the views and took photos. Enjoy the photos.
Got back to camp around lunchtime, bought some sangas for dinner, as we had a late brekky, we gave lunch amiss.
For the rest of the arvo, we did "sweet FA". Tomorrow we head home.
A balmy morning in Canberra.
We left Canberra at 8:13am and headed for Newcastle.
The weather was fine.
The traffic was still light, but still flowing as we went through the NorthConnex tunnel.
We unpacked and relaxed during the afternoon. Marg visited her Smokers Shed, while I laid on the bed watching telly and relaxing.
The motel room was still very good.
We had the sangas that we bought during the day. They were YUMMA. (Brian )
Tomorrow, we head for Coffs.
Our route from Canberra to Reign Inn Motel, Newcastle, NSW - 446 kms.
We left Newcastle at 8:14am and headed for Coffs Harbour.
The weather was foggy at first, then sunny.
The traffic was still very light.
After we left Lindsay Transport, it was time for our magnificent choccy banana split at The Big Banana. And it was magnificent.
We left the Big Banana and arrived at Aquajet Motel, where we unpacked and relaxed during the afternoon. Marg visited the barbie area, which allowed smoking, while I laid on the bed watching telly and relaxing.
The motel room was very good.
We had the sangas that we bought during the day. They were YUMMA. (Brian )
Tomorrow, we head home.
Our route from Reign Inn to Aquajet Motel, Coffs, NSW - 390 kms.
Our connection with Lindsay Transport.
We knew Mark Lindsay who was one of the sons of the founder of Lindsay Bros Transport. Mark had a son Peter who back in the late 80s used to compete against our eldest son Jay in BMX. Since then, whenever we went on long roadtrips, we have a competition where we would count each Lindsay Bros semi that we saw. We knew that their original headquarters was just south of Coffs. You can see the trucks from the highway. SO this trip with no 5th Wheeler in tow, I said to Marg that I would like to stop at Lindsay Transport and tell my story. She said that I was mad.
I parked between Lindsay Transport Utes and left Marg in the mighty Navara and walked into the Office. I told the woman that I knew Mark, she had only been working for them for 2 months, so she introduced me to Jason who has worked for them forever.
I told Jason my story and he told me that Mark had died over 10 years ago from illness and Peter who had worked for the company, had recently left. As I was about to leave, Jason gave me the OK to take some photos.. see below.
I was rapt that I stopped and spoke to Jason. As Marg said... I am mad.
After we left Lindsay Transport, it was time for our magnificent choccy banana split at The Big Banana.
We left Aquajet Motel at 7:06am and headed homeward.
The weather was sunny.
The traffic was light.
We unpacked the mighty Navara and it took a couple of days to clean up and put away all our crap.
Our Apartment is rather nice. It's great to be home and it was great being away.
Tomorrow, we do "sweet FA".
Our route from Aquajet Motel to Home - 327 kms.
