Day 160 - Thursday 15th September 2016.

Southport - Day trip to Ballina, NSW - Day 83.

We slept well and woke about 7:30am and watched "Kochie". We got up about 8:30am, showered, had brekky.

We left at 9:29am and arrived at BP Ballina at 10:56am, filled up with diesel and continued onto Gemcuts arriving at 11:11am. As we parked at the rear of their factory, Liz came out and welcomed us. We needed some 'grit' for Marg's fossicking tumblers. I rang Liz at 8:30am to check if they had 10kgs, if they didn't, we wouldn't be going BUT all good.
The traffic both ways flowed beautifully, my only concern was that 99% of the traffic was sitting on the 110kph limit including the trucks.
We chatted with Liz and her husband Brian and then headed to Bunnings, where there is a BIG Prawn (see photo). I had 2 sausages for lunch and Marg have a beef and gravy roll from Reddy Red, we drove down to the Richmond river and ate our lunch.
We left Ballina at 12:16pm and headed back to camp, arriving at 1:47pm.

I have managed to catch a cold, I am suffering from the drippy nose, SO this arvo we both had a nanna nap, I slept longer than Marg.

Dinner was scratch. Marg had toast and I had cereal.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned.

Today's drive to Ballina and back - 272 kms.

The BIG Prawn at Bunnings Ballina.

Lunch spot on the banks of the Richmond river - The tide was out.

Day 161 - Friday 16th September 2016.

Southport - A relaxing day at camp - Day 84.

We slept well, considering that I am dying with a cold, and woke about 7:30am and watched "Kochie". We got up about 8:30am, showered, had brekky.

We didn't have anything planned except to visit Officeworks and print the Ballet tickets for tomorrow night. We 'burned' the tickets onto a DVD and then drove over to Officeworks Southport. Marg went in and came out with NO printout. She said that the PCs didn't support DVDs, SO we drove back to camp and copied the file onto a USB stick and back to Officeworks. All good, she came out with a printout.
Naturally, it cost Marg a coffee, SO we drove over to Aussie Fair, I thought I knew a shortcut, WELL I got truly owned, we eventually got there but should have gone the normal way. My shortcut route had new 'no turn' signs. We parked up on the top floor and first stop was Cafe muggacino for a coffee. I have 2 simcards to be activated, SO we walked into Telstra and Alice 'fixed me up'. All good. Did a small food shop at Woolies before leaving.
Back at camp, it was still blowing like buggery, we had lunch. We both managed a nanna nap, later we sat on the benchseat and gazed out over the Broadwater. It was a great day but windy.

Marg made her world famous egg and bacon sangas for dinner. They were YUMMA.

Tomorrow is a busy day, I may ride, Lukey wants to do a tip run, and Mont and Marg are off to the Ballet. I might give that a miss.

No photos OR riding today.

Day 162 - Saturday 17th September 2016.

Southport - Riding, Tip run and ballet - Day 85.

We slept well, my cold appears to be subsiding. I left Marg in bed while I changed into 'cycleman' and left camp at 7:46am. there was a light southerly, so I headed to my Lands End northerly turnaround point. I continued down to Surfers for my daily weather photos, then headed via the Federation 'gravel' Walk out to The Spit. I sat on my rock and ate my 2 bananas, before riding to Cafe Rockpool for a coffee. Cafe Rockpool closes tomorrow for 3 months for a major refit. I said my goodbyes to Kamal, Zac and Sean. From there back to camp, I stopped and photographed the neww play area which is 100 meters from camp.

I arrived home at 10;20am after 35.5kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 36kms gives me a total of 360kms for September.
640kms for August, 1,052kms for July, 681kms for June and 369kms for May and my 41st ride at Southport for a total of 1,961kms, while at Dicky I rode 986kms OR if you are really into figures, I have ridden 3,250kms since leaving home back on 9th April.

After showering, I packed up our solar lights, collapsible chairs and wardrobe which live in Lukey's shed. We had lunch and left camp at 1;30pm for Lukeys. We did a tip run with green waste and cardboard> I rang jay but he didn't have any rubbish for the tip. We spend a couple of hours at Lukeys, Marg and I played with Mase. Mont is going to the ballet tonight with Marg (pity there wasn't a ticket for me). They are watching "The Nutcracker by the Imperial Russian Ballet". On the way back to camp, we stopped at Maccas for dinner. Mont didn't put up any fight. Mont is sleeping in our annex tonight and I set up her bed. About 7:20pm, I drove them to the Arts Centre in Surfers Paradise. Marg texted me, the show finishes at 10pm, so I will be there to pick them up.

Maccas tonight. It was nice.

Update: I picked the girls up at 10:15pm, they absolutely loved the Ballet. The Russian dancers were extremely talented, they also included children from local dance clubs.

Tomorrow, take Mont home and just bugger about.

10:11am - The new play area about 100m from camp.

Day 163 - Sunday 18th September 2016.

Southport - Another quiet Day - Day 86.

Marg slept well and I slept crappy. Mont and I were up about 7:30am, Marg got up about 8:45am and Mont helped Marg cook scrambled eggs on toast. They were YUMMA. The weather was drizzly, so taking Mont to the bouncing pillow and swimming were out of the question. We took Mont home and on the way, stopped at Helensvale's Donut King, so naturally, we had to have coffee and cinnanon donuts. Mont had a frozen coke. At Lukeys, he helped me put the hitch back in the tray of the mighty Navara. We are leaving next Thursday 22nd.

We headed back to camp and had lunch. During the arvo, while Marg managed a long nanna nap, I watched the V8s racing at Sandown. Today's race was meant to be 161 laps. Back in 2008, 2009 and 2010, I towed our fiver about 500 laps during the Sandown Leisurefest. It was a 'top' race, Lowndesy came 8th.

Marg cooked 'boiled' dimmies. They were yumma.

Tomorrow, we hope to pack away our annex and walls.

No riding or photos today.

Day 164 - Monday 19th September 2016.

Southport - Part pack up Day - Day 87.

Marg slept crappy and got up about 5:45am, I slept better and got up about 7:30am. We had brekky and then we packed up the awning and walls. It took about 2 hours, but all good. It was dry and the forecast is for rain.

About 10:30am, we headed off to Spotlight, Marg wanted beads with numbers and letters but Spotlight didn't have any. Unbelieveable. Next door to Spotlight was Baker's Club, SO we had coffee and pies for an early lunch. On the way back to camp, we stopped at Woollies South Park, while I did the shopping, Marg visited the Reject Shop looking for her beads, again no luck.
Back at camp, I changed into 'cycleman' and left camp at 12:51pm, there was a light north westerly breeze, so I headed to my Lands End northerly turnaround point. I continued down to Surfers for my daily weather photos. The area has street stalls set up for the schools holiday, hence the Firetruck in my photos. I headed via the Federation 'gravel' Walk out to The Spit. I sat on my rock and ate my 2 bananas, before riding through the Doug Jennings park, where I saw a Roller and a female taking photographs of it. I hummed and haared and thought bugger it. It's in the open, I will stop and take a photo, SO I did. There was a guy very nicely dressed, I rode over to him and started talking to him. He was the driver and after some investigating on the internet. The car is commercially registered, so you could probably hire it. I did ask Wayne the driver, what was the model, he said a Phanton just on $1million. As Cafe Rockpool is closed for renovations, I stopped at Catalina which is housed in the Aquatic Centre. I had my coffee and then rode home.

I arrived home at 3:33pm after 35.4kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 35kms gives me a total of 395kms for September.
640kms for August, 1,052kms for July, 681kms for June and 369kms for May and my 42nd ride at Southport for a total of 1,996kms, while at Dicky I rode 986kms OR if you are really into figures, I have ridden 3,285kms since leaving home back on 9th April.

Back at camp, Marg was testing the bed and it must be Ok, as she didn't wake up for another hour. We went for a walk along the reclaimed grass/beach area.

Dinner was spagetti on toast. It was yumma.

Tomorrow is our LAST Bingo.

Southport - Our LAST BINGO for this sojourn - Day 88.

  • Weather: Overcast Min: 11.4° Max: 22.3°
  • Wind: 9 - 20kph East.
Marg slept better and I slept ratshit. We got up about 7am, showered, had brekky and left for the Sharks at 8:20am. Arrived at the Sharks about 10 minutes later. I brought 2 full sets plus 2 lucky numbers plus 2 undercovers tickets plus 2 extra sets of jackets for $70, less an $8 voucher that we won last week. We sat at 'our' table. While I bought the tickets, Marg went and ordered our coffees. Marg and I marked the various games and were ready for the 9:30am eyes down with heaps of time to spare, SO we read the Herald Sun on our iPads.

Marg played brilliantly winning $30 and $20, then I only ONE NUMBER to go and was feeling confident, before some 'old fart' called Bingo. Bastards. It was Marg $20 again, SO she won $70 in total. We were both very happy.

Our Bingo summary after our 15th appearance, paid $62 won $70. At Dicky we lost $44. Outlaid to date: $762 and won so far: $939, current profit is $177.

After Bingo, we drove back to camp, where we had lunch before I went for a short ride.
I rode out of the park and headed South to Surfers, stopped for my daily weather photos, then headed 'halfway' towards the Spit, when I wimped out and rode back to camp. I am feeling shithouse.

I arrived home at 2:18pm after 21.0kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 21kms gives me a total of 416kms for September.
640kms for August, 1,052kms for July, 681kms for June and 369kms for May and my 42nd ride at Southport for a total of 2,016kms, while at Dicky I rode 986kms OR if you are really into figures, I have ridden 3,304kms since leaving home back on 9th April.

When I got back to camp, we both had a nanna nap.

Marg cooked egg and bacon pie. It was yumma.

Tomorrow, I hope to rest.

Day 166 - Wednesday 21st September 2016.

Southport - Our LAST day on the Gold Coast - Day 89.

  • Weather: Overcast and Rainy Min: 17.8° Max: 20.0° Rain: 7.6mm.
  • Wind: 0 - 15kph Variable.
We both slept better and woke around 6:15am. We got up about 7am, had brekky. I started to pack up whatever was left outside. We drove over to Lukeys to take our BIG dish and pick up our smaller dish. We said our goodbyes, I didn't kiss anyone as I am still dying BUT feeling better. On the way back at camp, we stopped at Helensvale shops and bought our 'travelling lollies' and some more cereal if we are trapped by flood waters. Most of the arvo, it drizzled but by dinner time, we are all packed up and ready to go.

One little hiccup, I haven't been able to set the Dish up, I am hoping because there was heavy cloud above that was my problem. I will try at Moree tomorrow.
Jay rang us when he got home to say our goodbyes. We will see our boys and Bec in mid October, when they come to Melbourne for a family wedding.

Dinner was last night's egg and bacon pie leftovers. It was yumma.

Tomorrow we hope to make it Gwydir CP at Moree. Dependent upon the flood waters.

Update: Change of plans - we are going down the Pacific Hwy. Dennis our truckie neighbour, said his fellow truckies said the Newell Hwy is too wet and dangerous with potholes.

No photos OR riding today.
