Day 71 - Sapphire to Rockhampton,Qld - 321kms.

It was a freezing, cold night, so I used my sleepingbag and was warm as. I awoke around 6:00am, and got up and after we surfed the internet, finishing packing up and were on the road at 8:48am and headed towards Rocky. Our first stop was at Comet a small village, then we continued on past Blackwater, there were quite a number of 'Stop/Go' road works today along the way. Our next stop was at Duaringa, which has a lovely big open area for free camping, there were probably 10 vans stopped there, a good number were staying overnight, as some had erected clotheslines and others were running generators, a definite giveaway. We stopped there for a rest stop each time we come through, but Marg couldn't remember it. She's getting old and forgetful.
Our last rest stop was going to be at Westwood, it is a little tricky but we stopped for a short break, then we drove straight through to our caravan park in Rocky, arriving at 1:43pm.
We did a quick overnight setup, plugged in the power, connected the water and put out 2 chairs, set up the Dish, and Marg's room. Marg has gone to test the bed, I think it passed because there are zzzzzzzzzzs coming from that vicinity.
Dinner tonight was sausages and vegies, very YUMMA, complimented with a few chilled refreshers.

Tomorrow, we are doing a day trip To Mt Hay Gem fossicking area about 40kms from Rocky back out along the Capricorn Hwy, we passed it today. You can camp there, but you have to be a mountain goat and our van isn't, so a pleasant drive back there will be good.

Day 72 - Visit Mount Hay Thunder Egg park.

I realise that the minimum temperature was increasing as we are on the coast, so I packed my sleepingbag and ski PJs away and wore my 'manly' nightie, sorry I mean a large T shirt and a blanket and was warm as and slept like a 'big' log, Marg also slept well.
Today, we plan to visit Mount Hay Thunder Egg Park.
But first, we had brekky and got our morning fix of the internet. We left camp at 9:30am and drove the 39kms from camp to Mount Hay arriving at 10:15am. We paid our money ($25*2=$50) to allow us to fossick. Don gave us a pick and plastic bag each with a bucket of water and a brush and took us to the fossicling area about 20 meters from the shop. Marg didn't want small thunder eggs, as we still have some left from last year's visit, so we concentrated on Rhyolite. We found some pieces of rhyolite and also a handful of small thunder eggs, then we visited Don's Rock garden, we did last year and bought $100 worth of rock, this year we tried to control ourselves, but still bought $50 worth of rock. For our $50, we got a chunk of Malachite with Azurite, tiger eye and tiger iron, and a chunk of agate. I will take a photo when we relax at Dicky Beach in 2 days time.

After leaving Mount Hay, we called into Gracemere shopping centre, where we had lunch at the cafe (I had 2 pies and Marg had a quiche, it was YUMMA), then we visited Woollies for a small shop. Back at camp, I watched last night's live 4 hour telecast of the Tour de France. I tape the live coverage each night, using the VAST recording option. Marg is still engrossed in her crossword puzzles.
Dinner is a roast meatloaf with roast spuds, this will be YUMMA.

Tomorrow, we drive to Glenlodge Caravan Village at Bundy about 320kms, it will be good to see Brendan and Simon who own the park.

Day 73 - Rockhampton to Bundaberg,Qld - 320kms.

It was a mild night, so I used just ONE blanket and my 'manly' nightie. I awoke around 6:15am, and got up and after we surfed the internet, finishing packing up and were on the road at 8:28am and headed towards Bundy. Our first stop was at Mount Larcom,a small village, then we continued on past Calliope, there were quite a number of 'Stop/Go' road works today along the way. Our next stop was at Mirian Vale, where we just pulled up on the main street, our last stop was at Gin Gin rest area, then we turned left and headed towards Bundy in the rain. Not happy, Jan. We arrived at Glenlodge at 12:53pm, Brendan and Denise (owners) just happened to be out the front and walked over to welcome us. Their Caravan park is fully booked out, which is great.

Simon (the other owner and Brendan's brother) showed us to their overflow area, which suited us 'down to the ground'. I only connected the power. At 3:45pm, Marg and I drove over to Across the Waves Sports Club to play the pokies, drink their beer and eat their food. We drove the 4kms to the Club in the rain, I dropped Marg at the front door in the dry, while I parked the mighty Navara and walked in the rain. Marg showed her Dicky Beach Club card and walked straight through to the pokies. Naturally, I forgot my card and had to sign in, no big deal. I asked about booking a table for 2 at 5:30pm for dinner, only to be told that they are booked out, but I should ask at the dining area, they usually can squeeze you in, which they did. While Marg played the pokies for 1.5hours (she lost), I sat and listened to the 2 guys singing and playing guitar, they were great, so as I watched them I had 2 chilled refreshers, then at 5:30pm, Marg and I had dinner, Marg had garlic prawns and I had roast pork and vegies, it was very YUMMA.

On the way back to camp, we topped up with fuel and at camp, I hitched up the fiver, because tomorrow, we plan to meet up with Luke and his family at Dicky Beach about 11am, so we have to leave about 7am and I wanted to have everything packed up tonight, so we didn't unpack much.

Day 74 - Bundaberg to Dicky Beach,Qld - 293kms.

It was another mild night, we were awake at 6am and up and into it, we left at 6:30am and off into heavy fog. We planned to meet up with our son Luke and his family at 11am at Dicky Beach, so I wasn't happy with the weather conditions, but we drove on. Our first stop awas nearMaryborough and then at the info centre at Gympie and arrived at Dicky Beach at 11:10am. We checked in and as I was positioning the fiver on our site (40), Luke and his family walked over to see us. SO while the 3 girls sat and chatted, I went about setting up camp while chatting to Luke at the same time, now that is multi tasking. We are here for 4 weeks, so it was a full setup (awning, side, both ends, emptied the tray of the mighty Navara completely, neatly packing it in Marg's room, satelite dish, clothesline, unhitched my bike for the fiver) it took awhile. Luke stayed about an hour then headed back home (Gold Coast), they had stayed at Caloundra for 3 nights at a high rise for the school holidays. After they left, we eventually finished the setup.

We were buggered, so dinner was a scratch meal and an early night followed.

Tomorrow, we plan to visit Kawana Waters Shopping Centre and then later in the day, Marg will renew her membership at the Dicky Beach SLSC and check out the pokies, while I will ride to Point Cartwright Lighthouse.
