Day 66 - Monday 26th June 2017.

Another relaxing day - Southport Day 61.

Another pearler of a day - weather wise.

We slept extremely well until 6:40am, when the alarm woke us. I had to drive the mighty Navara to Von Bibra to have its front bushes replaced. Marg asked me to turn on Kochie and then proceeded to go back to sleep.
I got to Von Bibra about 7;20am and waited for Brett (the courtesy car driver) to drop me back at camp. While driving a few of us, we had a good chat. I arrived back at camp by 8:30am and after seeing that Marg was up and doing what she wants too, I went for a ride.

I left camp at 9:02am and headed south to Surfers, but it was such a beautiful day, I kept riding to Burleigh Heads. I rode most of the way on the roads, as the shared paths were chockers with school holiday people. At Burleigh Hill, I took a photo, the ocean was beautiful. After taking the photos, I retraced my route stopping at my normal spot at Surfers for my daily weather photo. Continuing on to the Spit, I rode to the Southern Spit first and then out to the normal Spit, I sat on my rock and ate 2 bananas, before heading to cafe Rockpool, where 'B' was working, stopped for a coffee and then continued onto Lands End, stopping at our Apartment. The workers probably will pour the ceiling of the 1st floor garage by the end of this week. Continuing homeward, I stopped at Charis Seafood where they feed George and his mates George for the tourists about 12:30pm onwards and took a few photos, arriving back at camp at 12:40pm after 58.4kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 58.4kms is my 27th ride at Southport for a total of 945.4kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

Again, I had another beautiful shower with heaps of pressure and hot water. I was the only one in the 12 shower area and definitely didn't want to get out. After showering, Marg and I picked up the mighty Navara and drove it back to camp, then drove the Bubble to Aus Fair. Marg wanted to make 'silly putty', so we visited a few shops looking for various 'stuff'. We finally found all she wanted and back at camp, she made the 'silly putty'. Everyone is happy, when Marg is happy, I am happy. I felt like Subway, so I bought 2 foot longs, while Marg had KFC. It was a late lunch. We didn't get back to camp until just after 3:30pm and it was a bit late for a nanna nap.

Dinner was my 2nd foot long. It was yumma. Marg didn't have any dinner because we had a late lunch.

Tomorrow is Bingo. We both need to lift our game.

9:59am - The view from Burleigh Heads bluff.

10:35am - Today's weather photo from Surfers.

11:09am - Surfers from the Spit.

11:11am - Some whale watching boats coming home.

11:11am - looking back to shore.

12:03pm - George on sentry duty.

12:30pm - Georges waiting for lunch at Charis Seafood.

12:32pm - Tail End Charlie or is it Tail End George.

Day 67 - Tuesday 27th June 2017.

Bingo - Southport Day 62.

We slept well and woke just before 6:30am. We buggered about on the internet, had brekky and were on our way by 8:20am.

We arrived at Sharks just after it opened at 8:30 and walked in and I claimed our table, while Marg went and ordered a coffee for me, while she ordered a juice and muffin for herself. I bought our normal set of bingo, which consisted of 2 sets of the normal games which comprises 40 games, plus 2 sets of jackpots plus 2 undercovers plus 2 lucky numbers for an even $50.
By half time, I hadn't won a thing, as usual, close, as in only 1 number but no cigar, while Marg won $10. After half time, I was playing to my usual form and didn't win anything. Marg was on a roll and won $30, while I didn't win a cent. Bugger.

Our Bingo summary after our 8th appearance, paid $50 won $40. Outlaid to date: $400 and won so far: $362 current LOSS is $38.

After bingo, we drove over to the Helensvale shops, as Marg needed to buy hobby 'stuff' from Riot. We had coffee at Michels and did a small shop at Coles.

During the arvo, I buggered about on my laptop and Marg managed a nanna nap.

Dinner was rolls.

Tomorrow, nothing is currently planned.

No photos OR riding today.

Day 68 - Wednesday 28th June 2017.

Another relaxing day - Southport Day 63.

A nice day NOT a pearler of a day - weather wise.

We slept extremely well until 7:20am. We laid in bed and watched Kochie, I left Marg in bed and I decided to go riding.

I left camp at 8:57am and headed south to Surfers, stopping at my normal spot for my daily weather photo. Continuing on to the Spit, I rode to the Southern Spit first and then out to the normal Spit, I sat on my rock and ate 2 bananas, before heading to cafe Rockpool, where the backpacker was working, stopped for a coffee and then continued onto Lands End, stopping at our Apartment. The workers have poured the ramp from the lowest level to the next one up and preparing to pour the next level. Continuing homeward, I arrived back at camp at 11:38am after 36.9kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 36.9kms is my 28th ride at Southport for a total of 982.3kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

Again, I had another beautiful shower with heaps of pressure and hot water. I was the only one there and didn't want to get out. After showering, Marg and I didn't want to go out, so we stayed in camp all arvo. Marg managed a nanna nap.

Dinner was Mr Mc Cain's Roast lamb for Marg and I had chicken kiev. They were yumma.

PS: We have just been contacted from family in Melbourne, Mum is in a serious medical situation, SO we will towing the fiver back to Melbourne leaving on Friday. Tomorrow is packing up day.

No photos today.

Days 69 to 79
Thursday 29th June to Sunday 9th July 2017.

Mum passed away.

Unfortunately, Mum passed away on Thursday morning 29th June, after a few months stay in hospital.
There was a private service with immediate family only.
Marg and I flew down to Melbourne on Friday 30th June and returned yesterday.

Day 80 - Monday 10th July 2017.

Setting up camp again - Southport Day 64.

A pleasant day - weather wise. (better than Melbourne had been for the past week),

We slept well until 6:20am. We laid in bed and watched Kochie, I left Marg in bed and took over the camp's laundry to wash our week's worth of clothes.
I then started setting up the awning with the sidewalls, drove over to Storage King to pick up stuff including the Sat Dish plus my bike etc. It took nearly all morning to do and after having a beautiful shower, Marg and I drove to Aus Fair to replenish our food, as I had turned off the power and emptied any food that wouldn't keep, while we were down in 'balmy' Melbourne.
We had a coffee at Zarraffas and I noticed that the 'cheap' barber was nearly empty, so I had a $10 #4 crew cut and then we did the shopping at Woollies.
Back at camp for lunch and I decided that I needed a ride, so I did.

I left camp at 2:19pm and headed north to Lands End and called into our Apartment. The 'boys' are preparing the next floor for pouring. Continuing on to the Spit, I rode to the Southern Spit first and then out to the normal Spit, I sat on my rock and ate 2 bananas, before heading back to camp to bring in our washing, but Marg had beaten me to it. I arrived back at camp at 4:05pm after 28.7kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 28.7kms is my 29th ride at Southport for a total of 1,011.0kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

Again, I had another beautiful shower with heaps of pressure and hot water. I was the only one there and didn't want to get out. This is becoming my normal routine. A long shower.

Marg didn't have a nanna nap, instead she cooked some magnificent meatballs. Dinner was spag with meatballs. Absolutely magnificently YUMMA.

Tomorrow: We are minding Mase and taking Mont to school in the morning.

No photos today.

Day 81 - Tuesday 11th July 2017.

Minding Mase - Southport Day 65.

A pleasant day - weather wise.

We slept well until 6:30am, got up, showered, dressed, had brekky and on the internet until leaving at 7:45am.
Arrived at Mase's home at 8:15am, drove Mont to school in the Bubble, while Marg kept Mase entertained. About 10:15am, the 3 of us (Marg, Mase and Me in alphabetical order) drove to Donut King at Helensvale, mainly to get Mase out of the house, while Marg and I had coffee and donuts, Mase was going to have raisin bread, but they had run out, so he had 2 mini donuts. He liked them.
After donuts, we walked to the playground, inside the shopping centre. Mase loved it. What a great idea, Westfield Helensvale built a big playground for its customers.

We arrived back at Mases by midday. Mase wasn't tired, so he stayed up. We went outside and fed the birdies and played soccer. While playing soccer, Jo arrived home and surprised Mase, he was happy to see Mummy.

Marg and I arrived back at camp about 1;30pm and by 2;30pm, Marg was in the middle of a nanna nap, while I buggered about on my laptop. Dinner was potatoes in their jackets. Very yumma.

Tomorrow is a day of rest, I may ride in the morning.

No photos or riding today.

Day 82 - Wednesday 12th July 2017.

A relaxing day - Southport Day 66.

A pleasant day - weather wise.

We slept well until 7:15am. Lukey texted and said he and Mase would be at Helensvale at 10am, "Do we want to join him?" We said "Yes'. In the meantime, we laid in bed and watched Kochie, and also buggered about on my laptop. We showered, dressed and got ourselves organised and left camp at 9:30am and arrived at Donut King at the same time as Lukey and Mase.
Lukey and I had a hot dog and coffee, while Marg had donuts and a frozen raspberry and Mase had a raisin toast. After our feast, we visited the playground again. Mase again loved it.

After the playground, we headed to our respective homes.
We had lunch and I went for a quick ride, while Marg managed to have a nanna nap.

I left camp at 12:20pm and headed south to The Spit. One of the many joys of getting old, I checked my Strava app on my phone and sure enough, I had forgotten to start my ride. I had already ridden 6.04kms before Strava started recording today's ride. Continuing on to the Spit, I rode to the Southern Spit first and then out to the normal Spit, I sat on my rock and ate 2 bananas, before heading back to camp. I arrived back at camp at 1:30pm after 20.44kms including the missing 6.04kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 20.44kms is my 30th ride at Southport for a total of 1,031.44kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

Have I told you, how good the showers are here.

While Marg continued to have her nanna nap, I buggered about on the internet. Dinner was Mr Mc Cain's pizza slices.

Tomorrow: We are minding Mase and Mont, while Jo works from 7am to 4:30pm.

12:38pm - taken from the Spit.

3:22pm - The 'Truck' and the 'Bubble' parked out the front of the park.

Day 83 - Thursday 13th July 2017.

Minding the grandkids - Southport Day 67.

  • Weather: Sunny - Min 13.0° Max 21.2°.
  • Wind: 9 - 33kph South.
Another pleasant day - weather wise.

We were awoken by the alarm, at some ungodly hour of 5:30am. We showered, dressed and got ourselves organised and left camp at 6:00am and arrived at Mont and Mase's home at 6:20am.
Jo left by 6:40am for work and we took over caring for the grandkids. Mont as usual, was well organised and I took her to school at 8:20am. Back at Mase's home and after organising ourselves, the three of us (Marg, Mase and me) drove in the Bubble back to our camp. Mase bought his scooter and we walked over to cafe Rockpool, for a coffee and muffin, while Mase had toasted raisin bread cooked by 'B'. We noticed that 'B' had dyed her hair since we last saw her.

On the way back to camp, we stopped at the see saw play area which is a big sandpit, which Mase played in for a good 30 minutes, then stopped at the slide play area just near our camp. We were there for at least 20 minutes before walking back to our camp. While Marg got the food for tonight's dinner (spag and meatballs), Mase and I put his 'stuff' in the Bubble. We drove back to Mases, stopping at Woollies for a few things for Mont. At 3pm, I picked Mont up from school and drove her directly to her dance practice, Marg had made her 2 egg, bacon and cheese muffins, she can warm them in the microwave at dance.

At 5;15pm, Jo arrived home from work, feeling tired. Marg showed her what she had made for their dinner, we then headed back to our camp, arrived just after 6pm.
We left camp at 6am this morning and arrived home at 6pm, total of 12 hours of entertaining a 2 year old. We are both knackered.

Dinner was the leftover meatballs from the other night with spaghetti. Still absolutely YUMMA.

Tomorrow: We 'may' go to BINGO, if we feel up to it.

No photos or riding today.

Day 84 - Friday 14th July 2017.

Bingo - Southport Day 68.

  • Weather: Sunny/Cloudy - Min 12.0° Max 21.6°.
  • Wind: 7 - 28kph North.
We were buggered after yesterday's child minding, so we turned the lights out last night at 8PM and set the alarm for 7:30am.

Needless to say, we woke before the alarm, after a big sleep. We got up about 7:00am, showered, dressed and got ourselves organised and were on our way by 8:20am.

By half time, we hadn't won a thing, as usual, close, as in only 1 number but no cigar. After half time, I was playing to my usual form and didn't win anything. Marg was on a roll and won $30, while I didn't win a cent. Bugger.

Our Bingo summary after our 9th appearance, paid $50 won $30. Outlaid to date: $450 and won so far: $392 current LOSS is $58.

After bingo, we drove over to the Helensvale shops, as Marg needed to buy some more hobby 'stuff'. We had coffee at Michels and did a small shop at Coles.

During the arvo, I buggered about on my laptop and Marg managed a nanna nap.

Dinner was fish n chips.

Tomorrow, Lukey, Jo and Mase may pop in while Mont is at Dance practice.

No photos or riding today.

Day 85 - Saturday 15th July 2017.

A relaxing day - Southport Day 69.

  • Weather: Sunny/Cloudy/Rain - Min 13.4° Max 23.4°. Rain = 1.8mm
  • Wind: 11 - 33kph North.
Another pleasant day until late arvo when a rain squall came - weather wise.

We are still tired from the past 2 months plus, of worrying about Mum and other 'stuff'. We are looking forward to next Wednesday when we head to Dicky Beach for 15 nights. We are going to do 'sweet FA' or less. All I want to do is ride each day and have a coffee at the small 'village' of Dicky Beach, Marg will do less. Lukey and his family are booked into a cabin at our Dicky Beach caravan Park for 4 nights. It will be great as we plan to visit a few places including Aus Zoo.

Today, I woke at 7:30am and got up. Marg slept until I woke her at 9am, she didn't want to do anything today, except rest. Lukey, Jo and Mase came over and I joined them for coffee at Frigg. After coffee, Jo stayed with Marg, while Mase, Lukey and I walked over and fed the seagulls, while one of the Georges tried the bread but didn't swallow it. It was funny watching him play with it before spitting it out and the sea gulls eating it. Mase loved it. It was time to pick up Mont from Dance practice, so they headed off.

Marg and I had lunch and as Marg tossed up whether to lay on the bed and read or lay on the bed and have a nanna nap, I went for my short ride.

I left camp at 12:41pm and headed north to my northerly turnaround point at Lands End, passing all the visitors at Charis Seafood, where they feed George and his mates. There were Georges everywhere. Heading south was beautiful with a strong tail wind. Being Saturday, there were people everywhere, so I just rode according to the number of people. I made my way along the gravel Federation Walk out to the Spit, where I rode south along the Spit following a Mustang (i think it was a 71 Mustang) but it turned around and I couldn't catch it, as I was going to ask the driver what model was it. I continued out to the end of the seawall Spit and sat opposite my rock as someone was sitting on it and ate my bananas. I headed back to camp but stopped for a coffee at cafe Rockpool, both Kamal and 'B' were working. I feel a little embarrassed when either of them see me and say "The usual". I sit at a table and they bring it to my table and take my money. There were a few moments with no customers, so they came over and chatted for a few minutes. I arrived back at camp at 2:50pm after 31.2kms. Strava worked well today, it is amazing when you start the app at the start of the ride.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 31.2kms is my 31st ride at Southport for a total of 1,062.64kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

The shower was magnificent. I may have mentioned this before.

As it turned out, Marg managed to do both, read her book and then have a nanna nap. She is slowly coming back to norm. For something completely different, I buggered about on my laptop.

Dinner was a scratch meal. We had cheese and bikkies, while I washed mine down with a chilled refresher or two.

Tomorrow, nothing is currently planned.

1:52pm - taken from the Spit.

Day 86 - Sunday 16th July 2017.

A relaxing day - Southport Day 70.

  • Weather: Sunny - Min 15.7° Max 21.9°.
  • Wind: 11 - 32kph South East.
Another pleasant day - weather wise.

Marg is still tired and did bugger all.

Today, I woke at 6:30am and laid in bed with my earphones on listening to Macca. Marg slept until 8am, I talked her into going to Woollies at Runaway Bay. The Colour Run was all along the Broadwater Parklands which extends from the Nerang River Bridge all the way to our caravan park. So I walked over and took a couple of photos.
We didn't want to shop at Aus Fair, as there were 10,000 people opposite there, SO we went to Runaway Bay Shopping Centre. It is a nice place, we had a coffee and donuts at Donut King, did some shopping at Woollies and then headed back to camp.

Marg had lunch and then headed to bed, while I went for a ride.

I left camp at 12:12pm and headed north to my northerly turnaround point at Lands End, stopped at our Apartment and took some photos. Continued onto Surfers, where the place was jumping, there were some 'old' cars on display and then I headed north along the gravel Federation Walk out to the Spit, where I rode south along the Spit then turned around and continued out to the end of the seawall Spit and sat opposite my rock as someone was sitting on it and ate my bananas. I headed back to camp but stopped for a coffee at cafe Rockpool, both Kamal and 'B' were working. I feel a little embarrassed when Kamal calls out over the PA "order 116 is ready, Hello Wayne". There were a few moments with no customers, so they came over and chatted for a few minutes. I arrived back at camp at 2:47pm after 38.6kms.

My riding stats: Today's ride of 38.6kms is my 32nd ride at Southport for a total of 1,101.24kms on the Gold Coast.
Wildlife count while riding: Today's count was NIL.

The shower was magnificent.

When I got back to camp, Marg was laying in bed, reading and shortly after, she had a nanna nap, while I buggered about on my laptop.

Dinner was ravioli. It was yumma.

Tomorrow, we are taking Mont to school and minding Mase.

Day 87 - Monday 17th July 2017.

Started to pack up - Southport Day 70.

  • Weather: Sunny - Min 13.2° Max 22.1°.
  • Wind: 4 - 26kph North.
Another pleasant day - weather wise.

Marg is nearly back to normal.

Luke told us yesterday, that we didn't need to mind the kids today, so we slept in.
As we are leaving here on Wednesday, we drove both cars to Lukeys as we are leaving thee Bubble there, while we are at Dicky Beach. With Lukey and Mase, we drove to Helensvale to have coffee and ddonuts at Donut King, before taking Mase to the Shopping Centre's playground. After a 'million' slides, it was time to head back home. Marg and I went back to camp, where I started packing up for our departure on Wednesday.

It took about 2 hours to pack up and stow away the walls and awning and by the end I was knackered and had a nanna nap. There was already a body in bed having a nanna nap, I didn't dare wake her.

Dinner was chicken with sticks up them with vegies. It was yumma.

Tomorrow nothing is currently planned.

No photos or riding today.

Day 88 - Tuesday 18th July 2017.

We worked like Trojans today - Southport Day 71.

  • Weather: Sunny - Min 16.4° Max 24.5°.
  • Wind: 13 - 32kph North.
Another beautiful day - weather wise.

We both worked like Trojans today.

Last night was one of our better sleeps, I laid in bed about 6am and listened to the radio through my earphones, Marg woke just after the 7am news and asked me to switch on Kochie, which I did.

You may or may not know, that from the mid 1990s while I worked, I collected toy cars. We are all different.
Anyway, I have been selling some of my collection. At our Storage King unit in Southport, I still have approx 200 1/18 cars. To cut a very long story extremely short, one of my buyers contacted me yesterday and wants to buy approx 110 cars, SO today Marg and I spent about 4 hours at Storage King looking for and finding the cars that he wants. It is pure arse, that he is visiting Noosa and will collect them from Dicky Beach. Our only problem, is that we have to get them to Dicky, each car box is approx 350x150x150mm, not that small. Anyway, as I am writing this there is 110 cars in our fiver. I hope that I don't need a pitstop during the night, my path isn't that clear.

As we cannot cook any meals in our fiver, well that should read as Marg can't, we are having dinner at our club CSI Southport. We got here about 4:15pm, Marg is playing the pokies, and I am sitting in a booth on my laptop with a schooner of XXXX Gold, keeping me company, BUT it is nearly empty, (be right back). ahhh, that's better, I now have a FULL schooner of XXXX Gold. Going down, extremely well.

Dinner was a CSI parmi for me and Marg had creamy garlic prawns. It was yumma.

Tomorrow, we finish packing up and drive to Dicky Beach about 168kms away.

No photos or riding today.

Day 89 - Wednesday 19th July 2017.

Southport to Dicky Beach - 168 kms.

  • Weather: Sunny - Min 16.0° Max 20.5°.
  • Wind: 19 - 59kph West
  • Daily distance travelled with fiver: 168kms Total towed this trip: 1,945kms.
  • Next G Mobile reception at Dicky Beach: Yes
  • Vodafone WiFi Modem reception: Yes
  • TV Satellite: Erected dish.
We awoke about 6:30am, got showered and started packing up and hit the road at 9:05am.

We followed Smith St to the M1, along the Gateway over Storey Bridge and continued along the Bruce to the Caloundra turnoff. The traffic was excellent, no stoppages at all. The wind was blowing like buggery, BUT our fiver just hugged the road, no sway whatsoever. The main advantage of owning a 5th Wheeler. We only had a 170kms to go, so I didn't have a rest stop and drove non stop. We arrived at Dicky just on 11:25am.
I paid Peter the manager, $691 for 15 nights and we setup on site (#30A). Our 30A site is the furtherest site from the entrance and it was unfortunate that our 'normal' site (#40) was unavailable. It took nearly all afternoon but it was a FULL setup. It consists of power, water, sullage hose, awning with 3 walls, the skirt along the LHS of the fiver to wind proof the enclosed awning area, the skirt at the front where Marg has her 'space', my treadley lives chained to one of the front legs, the evacool fridge/freezer is chained to the other front and lives in the awning. We also have 13 boxes of my 'toy cars', which will be picked up during our stay. I was absolutely knackered today and we both had a nanna nap.

Dinner was cheese and bikkies.

Tomorrow we have shopping to do and I hope to ride.

Our route from Southport to Dicky Beach - 168 kms.
