Day 83 - Marg's Pokie day.

We slept well and awoke around 7am and laid in bed and watched Sunrise.
Today I drove Marg to our club at 10am (it opens at 10am), so she could play the pokies, while I filled in my time by going for a ride. We arrived at the club just on 10am and all the diehards, including Marg, had to wait a few minutes for the doors to be unlocked. Marg told me when she got home that when she walked in all the poker machine were on and just waiting for Marg to lose her money, which she did, BUT it took her 3 hours to do it.

While Marg was losing her money, I was riding along in beautiful sunshine BUT with a chilling breeze. I rode out to the Gold Coast seaway first and it was just beautiful, there were hardly any people walking on the shared paths, to annoy me. When I arrived at the seawall, there were a minimum of 50 Japanese tourists walking out along the seawall, I managed to ride past them without too drama. I made it to the end and sat on the concrete blocks that make up the seawall and just took in the views. When all the tourists arrived at the end, I then left and headed back to camp. As I was passing Seaworld, I took a photo of the monorail. Just as I was approaching our camp, my phone rang, it was the courier telling me, he had my 2 pairs of shoes. He couldn't find my address, so I explained to him where it was and that I would be waiting for him at the Office. The courier arrived and I asked him what was wrong with the address and he said that he refers to the Gold Coast highway as Marine Parade. He didn't know where the Broadwater Tourist Park was, he is an idiot.

I have large ish feet (size 15) and usually buy my shoes in Oz, but the range is extremely limited. Last year while staying here, Marg and I went to Harbourtown to buy me a pair walking boots, there was not a pair in my size in all the Harbourtown shops. So I buy my shoes from Amazon, my search showed up over 1,900 size 15 shoes, a bit different from what is available in Oz. Last Tuesday, I ordered 2 pairs of shoes each costing US$65-70, as my order was over US$125, it was US$127, I got FREE PRIORITY PAID POSTAGE. It arrived this morning, that was less than 4 days, Unbelieveable.

After picking up my parcel and taking it back to camp, I then continued my riding to Angler's Paradise, that is where, there is usually a large gathering of Georges. SO today I stopped and took some photos. The arvo was spent just relaxing.
Marg made dinner which was roast lamb cutlets with vegies and was YUMMA. Tonight, Marg watched her 'World's Strictest parents'.

Tomorrow, Marg is taking our granddaughter to the movies to watch "Ice Age4", Marg can't wait. I will drop them at the theatre and pick them up later.

Georges were all out in force to welcome me.

The Seaworld monorail.

I ride past this joint each day on my to the seaway.

Day 84 - A day with our granddaughter.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

We slept well and awoke around 7am and laid in bed and watched Weekend Sunrise.
Today Marg is taking our granddaughter (Mont) to see Ice Age 4 and then I will be joining them for lunch at maccas at Australian Fair.
Luke brought Mont over at 9:30am and then he drove the 4 of us to Aus Fair, where Marg and Mont got out and went to the movie, he then dropped me back at camp and drove off.
The movie should finish about 11:45am, so I left at 11:30am, big mistake, the traffic was bumper to bumper along the Gold Coast hwy, so I went inland and eventually got to Aus Fair and was waiting for Marg and Mont when she exited the theatre. We walked over to Maccas and had lunch then drove back to camp, where Mont played until we walked the 10 meters to the beach. Mont and I made sand castles and I also dammed up the water, which was good fun. After the beach, we walked over to the bouncing pillow which is in our park near the Office. About 3pm, Marg and I were buggered and drove Mont back home. It's good to be able to give them back.
We spent the rest of the arvo, relaxing, we were buggered.

Dinner was macaroni cheese and then we watched the Olympics. How good are the yachties? Bloody great.

Tomorrow we are both relaxing after today's busy day.

Poppa and Mont building sandcastles.

Grandma supervising.

Mont trying to splash Poppa.

Site 88 - Our camp.

It's too heavy.

Nice bum!.

She is cute.

Trying to bury poppa's feet.

Over to the bouncing pillow.

Day 85 - The wind is blowing.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

It has constantly been cool nights, I have been using my sleepingbag everynight, so far in Southport. We slept well, about 6:30am, I laid in bed and turned on the TV and watched Weekend Sunrise, as they have been giving the overnight results of the Olympics, more often than Ch 9. Marg awoke about 8am.
After Marg awoke, I went outside and emptied the shitter, it took 3 trips to the dump point to empty our black water holding tank. As I was cleaning up outside, I heard a motorbike pull up on the other side, it was our little boy, Lukey, who had ridden his 650cc Kawasaki Ninja around to visit us. He stayed about a hour or so and headed home. We eventually got our A into gear and went to Bunnings to buy a small tarp, to hang inside the annex against the wall end to stop any rain spray coming through the wall end, if it rains. Then over to Michels at South Park for a coffee and to look for a bucket and spade for Mont, no one sells buckets and spades for kids. Unbelieveable. The serach continues. back to camp for lunch.

I walked over to the Office to see if we could extend our stay, we were able to extend by one day, so we took it, I also rebooked this site (88) for next year - 3rd Aug 2013 to 23rd Sep 2013. After lunch and with the clouds continually coming over with wind gusts upto 59kph, I then rode out to the GC seawall. It was a good ride, being Sunday, there were quite a few people around. At the end of the seawall, the Southerly had produced some big waves with spray coming over the seawall. While riding past the Southport, I spotted a beautiful old car, it was a Merceds SSk, I am 99.9% sure that it is a replica, because Mr Google tells me, if it is authentic it is worth a cool $10M - $12Million, so I think it is a replica. Still it was beautiful.
Latest riding update: Today's ride of 20kms brought my total at Southport to 184kms or 3,688km so far this year.

Back to camp around 4pm, with the clouds threatening, then they cleared and it was sunny again. It didn't rain, just blew like buggery.
Dinner was sausages, eggs, bacon and spag. Absolutely YUMMA.
Tonight on TV, we watched a few episodes of Discover Downunder that Luke recorded for me.

Tomorrow nothing is currently planned, apart from me, riding.

Todays view of Surfers with a Southerly gusting to 59kph.

Another view towards Surfers.

Some of the bigger sets were breaking over the seawall sending spray everywhere.

I got a little too close to the spray. I had to dry my lens.

This was parked in the Southport Yacht Club carpark.

I am pretty sure that it is a replica - Mercedes SSK.

Enjoy the car.

Enjoy the car.

Enjoy the car.

Day 86 - Relaxing on the Gold Coast.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

Another cool night my sleepingbag is still being used. I slept pretty shithouse, I don't why, but I awoke about 4:30am and tossed and turned, but couldn't get back to sleep, so I put my headphones and listended to Rich, Bridg and Spida on Gold FM. Marg woke about 6;30am, so we laid in bed and watched Sunrise, finally getting up about 7am.
At 7am, there wasn't a puff on wind, so I went outside and took a couple of panoramic photos of the Broadwater, it was so beautiful. see the photo below.

By 8am the wind had kicked in with gusts already hitting 48kph. Marg and I plan to check out Pacific Fair shopping centre this morning.
Well, we went along the Gold Coast hwy to Pac Fair, and you could see where the Light Rail will be going. We walked around Pac Fair, saw Jodi at work, but she was too busy to talk to us. On the way back to camp, we drove along the Esplanade through Surfers upto the Southport Yacht Club. Back at camp, we had lunch, then I rode along the shared path back along the Esplanade to Cavill Ave, then off to the Spit via the coastal path, where I saw my new best friend Bluey, see photo.
Latest riding update: Today's ride of 27kms brought my total at Southport to 211kms or 3,715km so far this year.

Dinner was soup with fresh rolls, YUMMA.
Big night on TV, we have to watch and record either Amazing Race Oz and Big Brother. decisions, decisions.

Tomorrow, Bingo in the morning at our club.

Another beautiful morning in Paradise - Monday 13th August at 7:15am.

Soul Surfers Paradise.

The Esplanade shared path.

My bike leaning against the sign.

That is the Spit in the distance.

Bluey, my new best friend.

The waves are still pounding in at the Spit.

Tuesday 14th August 2012
Day 87 - Bingo at our club.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

Another cool night my sleepingbag is still being used. I slept fair, but I awoke about 6am then we laid in bed and watched Sunrise, finally getting up about 7:30am.
Another morning with no wind, so the view was beautiful, very similar to yesterday's photo. We buggered about on our laptops, as we were not leaving until 9:50am and then driving to our club for BINGO. We arrived just before 10am (Opening time) and waited outside with the other 'old farts'. A couple of minutes after 10am, the doors opened and everyone rushed in. We wandered in, paid $42 for 2 sets and sat down. We won 2 games totalling $50, so we made a profit.

Back to camp for lunch, then I went riding out to the Spit and then back past camp to Angler's Paradise and return.
Latest riding update: Today's ride of 27kms brought my total at Southport to 238kms or 3,742km so far this year.

Dinner was Jodi's recipe for nachos and they were excellent. very YUMMA.
Another big night on TV, we will record Big Brother and watch the 2nd last episode of Amazing Race Oz.

Tomorrow, I have Dad duties. Jay has a day off work and has booked his car in for a service, so I am chauffeuring him to and from his mechanics.

My dredge is back from Mooloolaba.

The seas are flattening out, after the high winds.

Check the sky. I think it is Cirrus.

Wednesday 15th August 2012
Day 88 - Dad duties with Jay.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

Another cool night, my sleepingbag is still being used. I slept well, and we were both watching Sunrise about 6:30am.
Another nice morning with a gentle breeze, I got organised and met Jay at his mechanic at 9am. We drove back to camp for a few minutes to see his mum and then I drove him home, via Coles and Bunnings. I arrived back at camp and then went riding while Marg made herself very comfortable outside.

I rode to the Seaway via the Federation Walk Coastal Path this is a good track, the first couple of kilometers are concrete and the final couple of kilometers are gravel. The gravel section reminds me on a BMX track with jumps and bumps, it is very enjoyable. The "Walk" finishes about 50 meters before the start of the seawall. After resting at the end of the spit, I rode back along the "Walk" and this is where my "brush with death" happened. You have probably heard of the Fierce Snake - it is the world's most venomous snake, well riding back along the "Walk" at break neck speed, I screamed around a corner and came face to face with "the Fierce Snake". I was shitting myself, so I rode back and bravely took a photo of the Fierce Snake.
After the trauma of my encounter with the Fierce Snake, I managed to find the inner strength to keep riding back to camp and then on to Angler's Paradise. While riding, I past a dog that looked like an old English Sheepdog with a tail, so when I returned I stopped and spoke to Wellington's owner, yes he is an Old English Sheepdog, but about 5 years ago the Vets stopped cutting off their tails. When I was a teen, we had Clarence who was an Old English without a tail, so it looked a little weird seeing one with a tail. Wellington is 8 months old and we had quick cuddles.
Latest riding update: Today's ride of 27kms brought my total at Southport to 265kms or 3,769km so far this year.

The rest of the arvo was spent sitting in our chairs overlooking the Broadwater, it was just heaven. Jay rang around 4pm to say that his car will not be ready until tomorrow.
Dinner was scrambled eggs on toast. very YUMMA.
Another big night on TV, we will watch Big Brother and record the final episode of Amazing Race Oz.

Tomorrow, I plan to ride in the morning and we will probably sit on the beach again.

My Fierce Snake. Ok, it may be a legless lizard but it certainly looks fierce.

A section of the "Walk" with ocean views.

The home of Georges. There are millions there. Well 30 odd.

Thursday 16th August 2012
Day 89 - Relaxing on the Gold Coast.

This is our 2nd week at Broadwater Tourist park.

It was a mild night, so with my sleepingbag, I was a tad too warm, but still slept well. Marg woke about 8am and as it was warm, I went for a ride.
I left her laying in bed watching Sunrise, while I headed towards Surfers. There were still plenty of people out walking and naturally, as I got closer to Surfers the number of walkers increased. I rode along the shared path past Cavill Ave and turned around and headed back towards Seaworld Drive, where it turns into the Federation Walk. I was about 2/3 of the way to the Spit, when I came over a small rise and there was a guy standing still on the path and just yelled "Snake". I hit the brakes and skidded to a halt, beside him and there on the track was a snake. See photos. It appears to be a Coastal Carpet Python, as we walked towards it, it wasn't fussed at all about our presence, it just slithered over the gravel towards the grass and vegetation. I didn't get to close to its head, just in case. This was the first time that I have seen a large snake while out riding, so that was a very exciting moment. After the snake disappeared I continued along the path and then out to the end of the spit. On the way back to camp, I noticed that there are 3 Ospreys in their nest, sorry I couldn't get a good photo, maybe tomorrow.
Latest riding update: Today's ride of 27kms brought my total at Southport to 292kms or 3,796km so far this year.

Late morning, Marg and I drove over to Harbourtown and walked around and past and in, every shop. The good thing is we spent bugger all. We also had lunch there and while we were there, Jay rang to say that his car was ready, so on the way home, we stopped at the mechanics and paid for it. About 5pm, Jay rang me from home, so I went and picked him up and drove him to his car.
Dinner was ham steaks and vegies. very YUMMA.
We will be watching Big Brother and recording The Project and watching that after Big Brother finishes.

Tomorrow, it is our 35th Wedding Anniversary.

Surfers this morning.

Surfer's beach is pretty deserted about 9:30am.

Q One in the background.

Here he is. No Bullshit.

He looks to be a python.

And away he goes, into the scrub.
