Day 63 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

I had to pull on my sleepingbag again this morning. I slept in until 6:30am, Marg woke around the same time. We didn't have time to watch TV, as we were leaving early to visit the Eumundi Markets, which are 50kms north of here, believe it or not, in Eumundi. We arrived at 8:20am and parked over the road from the markets. Marg and I walked a complete circuit, but got sucked in by Adam Gormley Photography. We also bought some fudge, it was YUMMA.

We drove back towards Noosa and then along the Sunshine Motorway. Got back to camp at 11am. As the sun was still out, I quickly changed into 'cycleman' and rode upto Point Cartwright Lighthouse. The ride was great, naturally more people were out and about today, being Saturday. Marg went to our 'club', when I got back to camp, there was one 'major' problem, Marg locked the van and I forgot to take my keys. My fault.
What to do, sit in the annexe and wait for Marg to come back from the club OR go over to the club, dressed in my cycle gear, go upstairs to the pokies area and scare the shit out of Marg, as she turns around and sees me there, dressed in my lycra. I wonder what I did.
Anyway, Marg eventually came home, I had showered and had lunch by then. We spent the rest of the arvo, reading.
Dinner was hamburgers from the 'other' fish n chip shop over in our shopping strip. It was YUMMA.
We watched Robin William's "The Birdcage" movie.

Tomorrow, we have some shopping to do.

Day 64 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

I had to pull on my sleepingbag again this morning. I slept in until 7:30am, Marg woke around the same time. Marg laid in bed and watched Weekend Sunrise, I watched the 2nd last stage of the Tour de France, Cadel lost more time. We cleaned the van and did some washing, sheets and towels etc.
Late morning, we drove over to Kawana Waters and had coffee and pies for lunch, then did some food shopping. Back at camp, it was still sunny, so I went for a ride to Point Cartwright Lighthouse, that makes a total of 333kms ridden, so far, while staying at Dicky Beach.

The weather is still very windy and cool, so we didn't walk along the beach today, it was too cool.
Dinner was scrambled eggs on toast. It was YUMMA.
Tonight's movie may be Robin William's "Mrs Doubtfire".

Tomorrow, nothing is currently planned.

Day 65 - GlassHouse Mountains and surrounds.

I had to pull on my sleepingbag again this morning. I slept in until 7:30am, Marg woke around the same time. Marg laid in bed and watched Sunrise, I watched the last stage of the Tour de France, Wiggins won.
Today we plan to visit Mt Beerburrum, Mt Tibrogargan, Glass House Mountains Lookout and Mt Beerwah, then visit Maleny, Montville and Mapleton. We left camp at 9:45am and drove to Mt Beerburrum arriving at 10:30am. We parked in the carpark and while Marg stayed with the car, I walked to the top of Mount Beerburrum lookout, a 1.4kms round trip and bloody well steep. I have never walked up such a steep path, at least it was concrete, I finally made it to the top with 4 stops for a rest, at the top there was a fire tower, which you could climb to the first level. The views were 360°s and absolutely magic. Walking down was harder than walking up, because it was that steep, it hurt your toes and knees. Just unreal.
We then drove to Mt Tibrogargan, on the way, we stopped beside a rail line to took a photo, it showed a house with the Mount in its back yard. What a view?? Arrived at the carpark and walked the 380 meters to the lookout it was not that great but still a nice view of 2 mountains.
Next stop was The Glass House Mountains Lookout, this was busy with people everywhere, as you didn't have to walk anywhere and the carpark was at the Lookout. I took a couple of photos. Next stop was Mt Beerwah, this is an awesome mountain, with very sheer sides. The walk around this mount has been closed for a while due to rock falls, so I took photos from the picnic area.
While I was at the fire tower on Mt Beerburrum, I noticed a high area to the north with TV antennas etc, so on our way to maleny, we stopped at the Glass House Mountains info centre and i asked the ladies how to get to it. They told me it was the Mary Cairncross Park and showed me how to get there, it is on our way to Maleny. We arrived at the park, took some photos, as the view again was awesome and we also had lunch there sitting looking over the mountains. Just Beautiful.
After lunch, we visited the Maleny Cheese, where we bought 4 different cheeses, which we had for dinner tonight.
After leaving the cheese factory, we stopped at Montville and bought some homemade fudge. It was YUMMA. We drove onto Mapleton, which wasn't much, so we headed for home via Nambour, arriving back at 4:05pm, a big tiring day.

We struggled staying awake to watch Amazing Race Oz, lucky I also taped it.

Tomorrow, I am driving into Harry Hema HQ in Eight Mile Plains, to get Harry checked out, he has some sort of electrical interference.

The latest forecast:

Day 66 - Visiting Harry Hema HQ.

It is hovering between sleepingbag and 2 blankets, which is a pain, because I am either too warm or not warm enough. I awoke at 6am because I am driving into Harry Hema HQ in Eight Mile Plains in Brissy, only 111kms each way. I dressed, had brekky and left camp at 6:25am, trying not to wake anyone.

Harry Hema has developed an annoying interference noise over the past 2 months, when he is plugged into a power cable he complains. SO I booked him into Hema HQ for a medical.
After leaving camp I headed along the Bruce Hwy, onto the Gateway Motorway, where for no apparent reason, we came to a halt for the next couple of kilometers, then just before the Bridge we were sitting on 80kph, then over the bridge and turned off at the Miles Platting Road and then left into McKechnie Drive and then I was there, arriving at 7:50am. I parked in the Visitor's area, went to the front door, it was locked until 8:30am, so I knocked on the delivery door and got in, I said that I had an appointment with Robert, so the lady showed me to the reception area, where Robert came and introduced himself, a nice guy. I told him what Harry was doing and away he went to investigate, while Harry was having his medical checkup, I was allowed to check out all the Hema books and maps, I was in heaven. It took about 2 hours for Robert to finalise the checkup. I thanked him, and then headed back to camp, the traffic flowed well the whole way.
I spent the afternoon, reading my ebook on Michael Jackson's Life story. No riding today, still buggered from yesterday.
Dinner was a one pan dinner, it was YUMMA.

Tomorrow is Bingo at our 'club'.

Wednesday 25th July 2012
Day 67 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Back to using my sleepingbag.
It's Bingo at our club this morning. I hope that we win today.
Marg was in a bit of a rush, with getting up and putting on her makeup, but we got to Bingo with plenty of time to spare.

Ok, back from Bingo, it was another good day at Bingo, Marg and I both won the same game and split $10, then Marg won a full card later, so with the initial outlay of $52, we didn't win enough to cover our outlay, but it was still good fun. It takes all morning, we leave camp at 8:50am, for 'eyes down' at 9:30am and we finish around 11:45am, so it takes all morning.

Walked back to camp for lunch, and then as Marg is feeling 'ratshit' with 'my' cold, she was going to lay down for the arvo. As the sun was out, I decided to go for a ride to my normal route up to Point Cartwright Lighthouse (33kms round trip), which I did, that makes a total of 366kms ridden, so far, while staying at Dicky Beach. It was just beautiful. When I returned there was a body missing from the van, but there was a note saying "Gone to Pokies", so she can't be dying just yet.

Dinner is one pan dinner, as usual, very YUMMA. There's nothing on TV tonight, that we like, so we watched "Falling Down" with Michael Douglas.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned as Marg is still feeling second rate.

The latest forecast:

Day 68 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Back to using my sleepingbag. we slept in until 8am, my best day yet.
As Marg is suffering the effects of a cold, we didn't plan to go anywhere today, so we buggered around camp. I drove to Bunnings to get some hose fittings and then back at camp, I washed 3/4 of the van, as I couldn't wash under the annex as we have our crap in there, so will wash that bit, just before we leave. After lunch, we walked over to the shopping strip and had a coffee, then later in the arvo, we walked along the beach, before going over to the shops again to buy hamburgers for dinner. they were YUMMA.

I was pleasantly surprised with Ch9's olympic interview with Michael Johnson, the former 400m champ, then we watched Hamish and Andy.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned as Marg is still feeling second rate.

Day 69 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Back to using my sleepingbag. We slept in until 7am, the morning was our best morning, weatherwise so far, it had reached 20° by 10am, so I went riding while Marg relaxed around camp.
The ride was the best so far this trip. My route is 33kms round trip upto Point Cartwright Lighthouse.
  • 1st section - From Camp to kiosk on the banks of Currimundi Lake is 2.3kms along paved shared paths, zigzaging through the coastal vegetation.
  • 2nd section - From the kiosk around the lake and edges along the Conservation park to Oceanic Drive South is 4.7kms again along paved shared paths and dirt paths through more coastal vegetation.
  • 3rd section - From Oceanic Drive South to Oceanic Drive North, which takes me along the suburban streets and shaared paths, which is 5.9kms.
  • 4th section - From Oceanic Drive North to Point Cartwright Lighthouse, which takes me along another paved coastal path with plenty of beach views is 3.8kms.
As a route it is very scenic and changing, it is always interesting. I have ridden 403kms so far at Dicky Beach and 3,336km so far this year. I do enjoy my riding.

Back at camp for lunch and then we drove to Kawana Waters Shoppingworld for a coffee and some food shopping.
As Marg is recovering from 'my' cold, I cooked dinner which was poached eggs on toast. More YUMMA than Marg's cooking. There's nothing interesting on TV tonight, so we watched Ben Stiller's "Dodgeball". I was pissing myself and Marg was laughing at me.

Tomorrow, Adam the photographer is dropping off a photo of George that we bought from him last Saturday at Eumundi Markets.

The latest forecast:

  • Sat Jul 28 sunny 20° min 9°
  • Sun Jul 29 sunny 20° min 8°
  • Mon Jul 30 sunny 20° min 8°

Port Frederick the dredge is working off the Mooloolaba seaway, so I just had to drop by.

Port Frederick and a yacht, just a nice photo.

Port Frederick the dredge is registered in Devonport.

This is a nice view from beach level.

Taken from up the top, out the front of Point Cartwright Lighthouse. Another beautiful view.

Looking towards Dicky Beach in the distance.

There were 7 ships at anchor.

Naturally, the surfers are out in force. Friday must be a surf day.

This is my weather photo, you know a picture is worth a 1,000 words, but you may already get the idea that it is an absolute pisser of a day.

Saturday 28th July 2012
Day 70 - Pictorial of my Bike Route.

Due to the cold nights, I have used my sleepingbag regularly, last year it was stowed away by now, but not this year. We slept in until 7:30am, the morning was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze, but by 8am , the breeze had increased considerably, I still went riding while Marg relaxed around camp.
Yesterday I described my bike route in general terms, today, I took some photos to further try and explain why this route is so beautiful.
Latest riding update after today's ride: I have now ridden 436kms so far at Dicky Beach and 3,369km so far this year. I love my riding.

Back at camp for lunch and then we walked over to the shopping strip for a coffee in the sun and bought some meat at the butchers for dinner. This arvo, we have recorded the Opening ceremony, and will watch that later, also we are about to go for a walk along the beach. We can't go too far from camp as Adam the photographer will be dropping off our canvas photo of George. I am awaiting his phone call.

The weather is still sunny and is absolutely beautiful out of the wind, but that wind is bitingly cool.
Talk later, the beach is calling us. Well, we walked along the beach is glorious sunshine, found some pretty shells (conch, cockle and cowry). Adam the photographer rang us while we were on the beach, so we headed back to camp and within 20 minutes, Adam was giving me our latest photo of George.

Dinner was rissoles with vegies. YUMMA. We watched the Olympics for a couple of hours, before I went to bed and read my 'Michael Jackson' ebook.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned except that I may go for a ride for something different.

The latest forecast:

The bridge over a little creek, where I usually take a photo each day so you can see the weather conditions.

Heading along side the Currumundi lake towards the Conservation Park.

Heading North along side the Conservation Park, the path meanders along.

Heading along the wooden boardwalk under the tree canopy towards Oceanic Drive South.

After the wooden boardwalk the path becomes just gravel and dirt.

Now I ride along Oceanic Drive South, as you can see, there is bugger all traffic.

Following the path along side Nicklin Way, before heading back into suburbia.

Right into Beach drive.

Left into Oceanic Drive South for about 3kms, again bugger all traffic.

Going from Oceanic Drive South through a lovely enclosed path to the beach path.

Finally onto the beach path that takes you the rest of the way to Point Cartwright Lighthouse, there are magic views of the ocean along here.

Here is just one of the many lovely views.

We are about 200 meters from the Lighthouse and just past "Charley the Bush Turkey's monstrous home".

You have seen numerous photos from here, I am sitting on the benchseat resting after the last bit uphill to the top, in front of the Lighthouse.

You have also seen this photo numerous times, it is about 20 meters from the Lighthouse looking south towards Dicky Beach on the horizon.

Dicky Beach is a patrolled beach.

This bird just dived from 20 meters into the water and caught a fish.

Even lifesavers have to train.

Day 71 - Back to relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Another cold night, using my sleepingbag. We slept in until 7:30am, the morning was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze. I decided to go riding while Marg relaxed around camp.
Being Sunday morning, there were people everywhere on the shared paths, at the kiosk and at the Lighthouse, but it was still a great ride.
Latest riding update after today's ride: I have now ridden 470kms so far at Dicky Beach and 3,403km so far this year. I love my riding.

Back at camp for lunch and then we walked along the beach up to the bridge where I stop and take photos while riding. There were dogs everywhere, as we found out, we had walked onto aa dog off leash area, but they were all well behaved (I know that our dear, departed Lazza would not have been so well behaved). Mid arvo, we drove to Spotlight, and Marg had run out of cotton for her bracelets, and then over to Kawana Waters Shoppingworld for a coffee at Michels (Rachel wasn't working today) and then to Woollies for some food. The rest of the arvo was spent watching the Olympics, I see a pattern developing.

Dinner was schnitzel with vegies. YUMMA. We will be watching the Olympics tonight.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned except that I may go for a ride for something different.

The latest forecast:

Monday 30th July 2012
Day 72 - Back to relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Another cold night, using my sleepingbag. We slept in until 6:30am, the morning was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze.
We HAD to watch Sunrise this morning, because our son Lukey and Jodi were 'gatecrashing the show' by standing outside, sure enough there they were. They stood out like "dog's balls", I rang them while they were on TV, as one does. After the show finished, Marg and I got our A into gear and drove to the local car wash, as the mighty Navara needed a 'Mighty Vac' and then I high pressured the two front floor mats, they were filthy, after fossicking in the wet. Now they are drying on the clothesline, they appear to be a lot cleaner, that was the objective. After leaving the Car Wash, we continued on to Kawana Waters Shoppingworld, and had a coffee at Rachel's Michels, I have only seen Rachel a couple of times this trip, she must be avoiding me.
Back at camp, it was about 11:45am, so I went for a ride, as the weather is glorious, the sun is out and the wind had dropped to a gentle breeze. I am mad, because today I took photos of the beach signs about dogs. Each entrance to the beach has a unique sequential number, eg: here at Dicky Beach Caravan park, it is #266. The sign say #207-215 No Dogs at all, another says 220-230 Dogs between 4pm-8am, it is great because you know exactly, where dogs are and are not allowed on the beach. I checked yesterday's area and sure enough where we walked where Dogs are allowed at all times. Typical. Who said I need to get a life.
Latest riding update after today's ride: I have now ridden 504kms so far at Dicky Beach and 3,436km so far this year. I love my riding.

When I got back to camp after my ride, the child bride was over at 'our' club, I wonder what she was upto? As it turned out, she won $50, so she had a great time.

Dinner is frozen pies, hopefully they thaw out. Should be YUMMA. We will be watching the Olympics tonight.

Tomorrow, nothing is planned except that I may go for a ride for something different.

The latest forecast:

  • Mon Jul 30 Late shower 20° min 6°
  • Tue Jul 31 Showers 20° min 8°
  • Wed Aug 1 Clearing showers 20° min 8°
  • Thu Aug 2 sunny 21° min 8°
  • Fri Aug 3 sunny 21° min 8°
  • Sat Aug 4 sunny 24° min 9°
  • Sun Aug 5 sunny 23° min 9°

This just proves that I was putting my life on the line each time I rode. God, I'm brave.

I am getting used to this weather.

Port Frederick the dredge is still here, I wander if he returns to the Gold Coast while I am there. I will be looking him.

Today's weather report photo. Another nice day, hey!

After a 'punishing' ride there is nothing better than passionfruit ice cream. I'm sure that I read that somewhere.

Day 73 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Another cold night, using my sleepingbag. We awoke around 6:30am, the morning was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze. We laid in bed and watched Sunrise this morning, getting up around 8am.
About 9:30am, I went for a ride, as the weather is glorious, the sun is out and the wind was manageable. As I stopped to take a photo, there was a major problem, I left my camera back at camp, so no photos of today's ride.
Latest riding update after today's ride: I have now ridden 537kms so far at Dicky Beach and 3,469km so far this year. I love my riding.

When I got back to camp after my ride, we had lunch and then Marg and I went for a walk along the beach, there were hardly anyone on the beach. We found some more shells and while walking back, we came across the fence where people, for whatever reason, attach their thongs to the fence, weird. After leaving the beach, we walked over to the shopping strip and had a coffee and then bought some groceries for dinner.
We spent the rest of the arvo, sitting outside in the sun, reading our ebooks, until Nola 2 camps away, asked if we could help her with her internet connection. It wasn't working, after her friend deleted some files, Marg got onto Telstra support and eventually got Nola's laptop connecting to the internet, so everyone was happy.

Dinner was nachos and very YUMMA. We will be watching the Olympics tonight.

Tomorrow, it's Bingo at our club.

The latest forecast:

Day 74 - Relaxing at Dicky Beach.

Another cold night, using my sleepingbag. We awoke around 6:30am, the morning was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze. We laid in bed and watched Sunrise this morning, getting up around 8am.
It's our last Bingo at our club this morning. I hope that we win today. Marg was in a bit of a rush, with getting up and putting on her makeup, but we got to Bingo with plenty of time to spare.

Ok, back from Bingo, it was another good day at Bingo, Marg and I won 4 times and we won $55 and outlaid $52 so we came home with a $3 profit, so a very good Bingo day. After lunch, I went for my LAST ride at Dicky Beach, hopefully, until next year.
Latest riding update at Dicky Beach: We have been here for 27 days and I have ridden on 17 occasions totalling 571kms and 3,503km so far this year. I love my riding.

After showering after my ride, I packed my bike away on its rack, as we are leaving here on Friday and I will not be riding tomorrow. I spent a couple of hours in the afternoon, sitting in the sun and reading Michael Jackson's "The Magic, The Madness, The Whole Story, 1958-2009" he has just recorded his "Thriller" album, it is a very interesting ebook.

Dinner is Marg's world famous damper. It is YUMMA. We will be watching the Olympics tonight.

Tomorrow, it's pack up day.

Day 75 - Packing up at Dicky Beach.

Another cold night, using my sleepingbag. We awoke around 6:30am, and I felt cold, as it turned out it was 4°, that's cold. The weather was again beautiful and sunny with a gentle breeze. We laid in bed and watched Sunrise this morning, getting up around 8am.
It's our last day at Dicky Beach, so I have set aside all the day to pack up, so we were in no hurry to do anything. While Marg spring cleaned inside the van, I started the outside, first thing to do was to empty the shitter. We have accumulated 15 bags of various rocks. I know, we are bloody mad, but we like it. Mid morning, we needed a rest, so we drove to Kawana Waters Shoppingworld and had a coffee at Michels, said goodbye to Rachel and did some food shopping at Woollies and topped up with fuel and air on the way home. Back at camp, we had lunch and I continued packing up all the outdoor 'stuff', this involved putting 15 bags of rocks in the back seat and the tray of the Mighty Navara, winding up the awning, folding up the 2 wall ends and the long side. Then I had to wash the side of the fiver, as I couldn't do it last week because we had setup all our 'bits' in the awning and they would have got drowned, not a good idea. Just as I was finishing, a flock of 5 kookaburras flew into the top of a tree, about 10 meters away and started 'singing' very loudly, they had come to say "Goodbye to Marg and I". I appreicated it.

Marg had to go and say goodbye to the pokies, so she disappeared for 3 hours and has just returned saying that it took 3 hours to lose. Go figure.

In the morning, we only have the chairs and satellite dish to pack and don't want to leave before 9:00am, as we don't want to be caught in the Brisbane peak hour traffic. We are 80kms north of Brissy and have to go 80kms south, to the Broadwater Tourist park in Southport.
Dinner will be Dicky Beach's world famous hamburgers, this will be our 3rd meal of hamburgers, they are bloody delicious, and very YUMMA.
We will be watching the Olympics tonight.

Tomorrow, we drive approx 160kms to Southport.
