Day 75 - Still relaxin' at Broadwater Tourist Park.

Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was warm, windy and sunny. Perseus (163ft yacht) has gone, it departed about 5:30pm last night. A very quite day, Marg had a Physio appointment at 12:30pm, so I drove her over to Australia Fair and while she had physio, I wandered around Oz Fair and then we had lunch and a quite afternoon at camp, just buggering about.

Day 76 - Still relaxin' at Broadwater Tourist Park.

Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was warm, sunny and no breeze. It was a perfect day, when I got to the end of the seaway I gazed out over the calm ocean and about 2 kilometers off Surfers I thought that I saw a small boat, but check out the photos, I spotted a whale just frolicking out there.
When we were in Sapphire, we bought a Red Star ruby and were getting it set in a ring, so we rang Roy, the ring man and we had to send him the money by Postal Order, so Marg and I drove up to Australia Fair and I pushed her around in the "Black Chariot" and we went over to the Post office, then had lunch at a very nice cafe and did some food shopping at Coles and then wandered home. The rest of the afternoon was spent by watching Seinfeld and reading. It is still very mild at present, currently it's 7:15pm and the temperature in the van is 24.2°.

Tomorrow, I have to drop Marg off at the hairdresser, she will be occupied for about 3 hours, while she is there, I have to go over and pick up Luke's car and take it to HSV and buy some bits for it. Tomorrow night, Luke and Jodi are picking us up and the four of us are going to see the "Outback Spectacular". Saturday morning Marg, Luke and me are going Jet Boating and then on Sunday the eight of us are going to the local Golf Club for lunch, it is my birthday. So over the next few days we are very busy, as you can see.

How nice is today's weather? Bloody good.

See, I wasn't lying.

Unreal about 2kms away.

Still bloody beautiful.

and again.

More people about to go whale watching
I didn't tell them that the whales are just offshore.

Day 77 - "Outback Spectacular 2 - Heroes of the Light Horse".

Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was dry and overcast with a light breeze. It was the complete opposite to yesterday's weather. After my ride I had to drop Marg off at the hairdressers at Oz Fair, then I went over to Luke's house to picked up his car, I had to buy a part for him. Then back at camp, Marg rang me, so I picked her up and we had lunch at the cafe at Oz Fair again, Marg was in the "Black Chariot". We spent the afternoon just relaxing in the rain, well light drizzle anyway. Luke and Jodi are picking us up at 6pm for tonight's "Outback Spectacular 2 - Heroes of the Light Horse". It should be fun.

Well, what a brilliant spectacular, it was excellent.
There were at least 1,000 guests, I counted them. we were served a 3 course meal (entree was Bushman's Swag - Qld salad mixed with a tangy mango dressing, rolled in a flat bread swag, Main was Bonza BBQ - Eye fillet steak with gravy, plum sauce, vegies and damper, Desert was Drover's Pavlova) absolutely yumma. Ahh yes, nearly forgot, unlimited beer, wine, soft drink or water.
The Outback was staged in 3 segments, 1. Welcome to the outback, 2. The Heroes of the Light Horse, a very moving piece, 3. Return to the Outback. It was a very exciting, very moving, I nearly teared up at one stage. It cost $90 each with a RACQ discount, normal price is $100 and well worth it.
We arrived about 6:45pm for the 7:30pm start, we all stood around inside with entertainment going on and I bought a stubby of beer with an Outback stubby holder for $9.95, good value. About 7:20 ish, we were ushered to our seats, we had front row seats, the entree was already on our table. The spectacular is shaped in a U with 6 rows of seats, so I would assume that viewing from anywhere would be excellent. The show started about 7:30pm and finished about 9:10pm without a break, I did have to take a toilet break just before the end. good idea, because at the end of the shows, I think everyone went to the toilet except us. So we got out without any holdups. The carpark was pretty full, but emptied onto the motorway very quickly, we arrived home by 10pm. A magic night.

A completely opposite day weatherwise to yesterday.

Day 78 - Jet boating in Paradise.

Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I didn't ride as we are booked in for the Paradise Jet Boating experience at 10am from Mariner's Cove. Luke also came with us and as I drove into the carpark at Marina Mirage, Luke just turned up on his motorbike. I was surprised that the carpark was full at 9;30am, but as we drove through the carpark to the Jet Boat reception, they have 2 reserved parking out the front, so the mighty Navara and Lukey's motorbike squeezed into 1 parking space, right out the front. How lucky are we?
We checked in and were given a lifejacket each to wear, they were 13 people on our boat, it can take 14 people max, there was also another group of 14, so both the jet boats were used. Time to board, so we walked down the gangway and sat in the 2nd front row of 4 seats, I was on the far right, then Luke, then Marg, then a spare seat. When all seated, the driver told us a few basics and we motored out of Marina Mirage opposite Fisho's, then into the Broadwater proper. We are only allowed to go max of 40knots, we headed to the Seaworld Resort and did a big 360° and then stopped opposite their wharf and had our pictures taken, but I have to scan then when I got home. Next we made our way upto and around Sovereign Island, where some of Qld's dearest homes exist, we saw Clive Palmer's house and the $5m boat that he bought his daughter for her birthday. We also saw another mansion that is owned by a couple who sell titanium to the medical industry, they probably owned my titanium plate in my collarbone, anyway, the roof on their shack is made of titanium and rumoured to cost $1.8m just for the titanium roof alone. It looked good. That brings me to another whatever, you are advised NOT to bring your camera with you on the jet boat, this was brought home to us, just off Brown island when we did another 360° turn and this time I had water trickling down my back, I hadn't experience that since I had stopped sailing. The ride went for 50 minutes and was bloody great, it cost $49 each, as we went on the first ride of the morning, you get a discount.
The rest of the day was uneventful, Marg read and I watched the V8 supercars, it's great that they are back, after their mid season break.

Waiting at the Paradise Jet Boating.

Fashion trendsetters. maybe not!

Day 79 - Happy Birthday to me.

Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today is my birthday, so nothing different this morning, I still rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, the weather was dry, warm and sunny with a light breeze. On the seaway, I watched George fly in and land in the middle of the seaway, he buggered about a bit, flew about 30ft then landed, he did that twice, but I wasn't ready with my camera, but I did get him in flight. He is awesome.

As it is my birthday, we are having a family lunch at the Emerald Lakes Golf Club at 11:45am, needless to say, Marg and I were first there, but everyone arrived within 15 minutes. In attendance were Jay and Bec, Luke and Jodi, Damo and Laura (the boys' housemates) and Marg and me. It was a typical family lunch, beer, food and talking crap, except for Marg who asked the band to sing "Happy Birthday" to me, which they did, so just a little embarrassed. I finally managed to get a family photo of the 6 of us, Damo took the photo.
After lunch, we all went our separate ways, I watched the V8s back at camp, while Marg relaxed.

Another great day.

George taking off.

Day 80 - Back to taking it easy in Paradise.

  • Weather: Woke up to a sort of dry, maybe a couple of droplets, but still a warm morning with a light breeze.
The overnight minimum was 17.0° at 3:00am. Today's maximum was 23.7° at 1:30pm.
Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was overcast with a light breeze. A couple of highlights during the ride were, out on the seaway a model and her photographer were taking photos of her, I wasn't game to stop and take a photo of her, the other highlight was the parasail just near the seaway, it looked good but no way, I will ever do that. It's not on my bucket list. As I was passing the Southport Boat Yard, I noticed that one of our jet boats were there for a repair to the starboard rear side, the driver must have gone just that little too close.

Lunch today was at Michel's Pateriesse at South Park, then some food shopping at Woollies, then next door to BWS to buy a 30can block of Carlton Mid for $35. This was the cheapest price that I have paid so far on this trip, the dearest was at Sapphire at $49 for a 30can block.
I must have a drinking problem.

Back at camp, it was a relaxed feel.

An overcast day but still nice.

The parasailor.

Day 81 - Back to taking it easy in Paradise.

  • Weather: Woke up to a sort of dry, overcast, warm morning with a light breeze. We did get some isolated showers during the afternoon, but not much.
The overnight minimum was 15.6° at 5:30am. Today's maximum was 24.2° at 12:30pm.
Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was overcast, dry and warm with a light breeze. My only highlight was the photo of Mum and Dad Osprey sitting above their nest. I still haven't seen any osprey chick and the time is running out for me to get a photo, as we leave soon.
I took Marg to the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre, the "Black Chariot" was in use and I pushed Marg around without hitting anyone, with only a few near misses. It's a nice shopping Centre, we had lunch at Muffin Break, we went to Woollies for some food supplies and to the NAB to bank my birthday cheque from Mum. Finally, we found a florist and bought some flowers for Lucy, who has just come out of hospital after a major operation, she is well on the way to full recovery.

Marg has just finished reading Anh Do's The Happiest Refugee book, and I am now reading it, it is brilliant.

Ian being a smart arse.

Day 82 - Back to taking it easy in Paradise.

  • Weather: Woke up to a sunny, warm morning with a light breeze.
The overnight minimum was 14.1° at 6:30am. Today's maximum was 26.4° at 2:00pm.
Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

I didn't ride today, as I had to take Marg to a Physio appointment at 10:30amat Oz Fair, she is slowly improving, slowly, but she is improving. After the appointment, Marg came upstairs and met me in the food court. We had coffee at Cafe Roma, then over to the jewellers as Marg was having some jewellery altered. Back to camp for lunch, then I dropped Marg off at the Southport Sharks club to play the pokies, as I had to pick up Luke's car and take it to HSV Surfers as a part we had ordered had come in. After buggering about with Luke's car, I finally took it back to Luke's then picked up Marg from the Sharks, she lost.

At 4pm at camp there was a special Happy Hour sponsored and run by the Dometic - Follow the Sun promotion, so we went along. There were giveaways and a raffle plus free drinks (beer, wine and soft drink) and food. Marg had a soft drink, I had 3 beers, there were speeches from the 3 winners of the promotion/competition, the CEO of Dometic Aust, and a few others. We stayed for the giveaways and raffle, we didn't win, we did come home with 2 Dometic stubby holders, so all was not lost. There were a minimum of 159 people there, that is how many people put their name of the list.

Where did our neighbours go?

  • Weather: Woke up to an overcast, warm morning with a light breeze.
The overnight minimum was 14.2° at 4:30am. Today's maximum was 24.7° at 11:30am.
Each day, Marg is doing her ankle exercises and it is working. We still use the "Black Chariot" for longer walks.

Today, I rode out to the Gold Coast Seaway, as normal, the weather was overcast, dry and warm with a light breeze. The ocean today was flat with a nice swell coming through, the surfers were out in force as usual.
I took Marg to Pac Fair for lunch, the "Black Chariot" was in use and I pushed Marg around without hitting anyone, but I did hit a display in one of the shops, without causing too much drama. We had lunch at the Crepe shop, Marg had a banana crepe and I had a ham and tomato omelette. The afternoon was spent reading, I finished reading Anh Do's - The happiest refugee, it was a brilliant book. Very moving.

An overcast day at the seaway.

Nice waves.

Straddy Express going whale watching.
