Hooray, we are back in the land of the living, after being without the Internet or Mobile for 3 days. We nearly died.
Woke up to a cold morning still blue skies, no clouds, BUT I am over the 1c. It is bloody freezing.
Anyway enough bitching about the weather, it is time to pack up and head to Ti Tree.
We stopped about 200 meters before the Stuart Hwy for a smoko, then again about 50kms south of Ti Tree. The drive was as usual uneventful. This caravan park has about 10 wild peacocks, just walking around the park. Unreal.
Tomorrow, we drive to Wycliffe Well (UFO capital of Australia), so this could be my last post. Wish us luck.
Where are we?
One of 10 resident Peacocks.
Ti Tree CP.
Hey, I am now officially over these 1c mornings, I am heading North, supposedly getting warmer, well it was 1.4c on my sensor at 6:45am. Not happy Jan.
It is still cloudless, blue skies, so in about 2 hours it will be shorts and t shirts. Today's forecast is for 25c. The rest of the week is Fine, sunny, 25c.
We are off to Wycliff Well the UFO Capital of Australia. This could be my last report. Wish us luck.
Well we made it, but Wycliffe Well has only internet access in the reception area. Hence the delay in updating the site, I know you thought the aliens had taken us.
We left TiTree about 8:45am for the 180kms drive, so we were in no hurry. We stopped at Barrow Creek and that was pretty rundown. Arrived at Wycliffe Well CP at
11:30am and we were the first to arrive today. It is 8:00pm and there are about 15 vans and motorhomes staying here tonight.I had to setup the Dish, because the TV here was very snowy, so the Dish came out and is working beautifully. At this CP, all the buildings have been painted by various artists with UFOs as the theme and it is brilliant.
Tomorrow, Marg and I will drive the 25kms to Devil's Marbles for some photos, I hope that I see an alien, but don't hold your breath. (I'm not a believer).
Barrow Creek Roadhouse.
The long and straight road.
Look, who I met at Wycliffe Well, I don't think he is an alien or is he?
I'm on the right, if you didn't realise.
They are real!!!
One of the many painted walls, they do look good.
Marg has come down with a cold and is feeling bloody awful.
Weather this morning is still cloudless, blue skies, no wind, but is getting warmer, down to 5c, we must be getting closer to Darwin, although we are still 1,122kms away.
We still plan to visit Devil's Marbles about noon and take photos, then go back at sunset tonight, to hunt for UFOs and maybe take a couple more photos of little green men and/or women..
Over the next few days we plan to stay at:
- Thur 14th May - Banka Banka Station - 1 night
- Fri 15th May - Daly Waters Pub - 1 night
- Sat 16th May - Mataranka - Thermal Pools - 2 nights
- Mon 18th May - Katherine - 3 nights
So we may not have Internet access for a couple of days.
We did go out to the Devil's Marbles about early afternoon, there were 3 caravans and about 6 cars already there. The marbles are very impressive, there are 000s of them, they cover many square kilomteres.
Tomorrow, we are off to Banka Banka Station, about 235kms.
Welcome to Devil's Marbles.
More marbles.
I couldn't see any marbles, but there're heaps of rocks.
More marbles.
More marbles.
More marbles.
Marg is still feeling bloody awful and slept accordingly, I hope like hell that I won't catch her cold.
The weather is warming up, my overnight minimum was an absolutely balmy 8.0c at 6:45am.
We plan to stop at the supermarket in Tennant Creek to restock our supplies.
The majority opinion from our fellow travellers is that they will not stop overnight in Tennant Creek, because of the Aboriginal unrest.
We did the shopping at Tennant Creek Food Barn and parked out the front of a Kindergarten, where we stayed for about 30 minutes, while we logged onto the internet. We drove the 100 kms to Banka Banka Station, what a beautiful oasis in the middle of nowhere. It has unlimited natural spring water, so I washed the Navara and the back of the van, I emptied our fresh water tank and replenished it with natural spring water.
Banka Banka does not have power, if you have a generator, they can be used from 8am to 7pm.
Tonight, there are about 15 vans here and the only model of generator that I saw going was the Honda 2.0i, that must say something.
I had 4 sausages and bread with onions for dinner, yumma. At 7pm there is a slideshow of the Banka Banka Station, I have met and spoken to Alex and Fiona, a lovely young couple. Alex is a little guy like myself.
Tomorrow, depending on how Marg feels, we plan to stay at the Daly Waters Pub.
At 6:50pm, Marg is asleep and latest report, she feels absolutely ratshit.
Tomorrow, we are off to the Daly Waters Pub, about 300kms.
Banka Banka entry.
Soft green lawn near the tree.
4 different 5th Wheelers.
Marg is still feeling bloody awful and slept accordingly.
The weather is warming up, my overnight minimum was an absolutely balmy 9.4c at 7:00am.
We plan to drive through Renner Springs and Elliott on our way to the Daly Waters Pub.
We stopped at Elliott for morning tea and diesel and as it had Next G reception, we stopped near the Police Station for some internet action. We overshot the Daly Waters turnout, so I had to do a U turn. The Pub is hard to describe, it is very Australiana ish.
Marg did improve enough to join me in the bar, later in the day for a quick drink, she had a water and I had a couple of Darwin Stubbies ($33 each). At night, there was entertainment, some guy was singing, we heard him, but didn't go and see him. I had an early night.
Tomorrow, we have booked in at Katherine Big4 Low Level CP, we are staying there until Marg is fit to travel.
We met ICEBERG, the guy lives fulltime on the road.
Daly Waters Pub.
Daly Waters Pub.
Did Marg lose her bra?.
Daly Waters Pub.
Darwin Stubbies.
Marg is still feeling awful and slept accordingly.
The weather is warming up, my overnight minimum was an absolutely balmy 13c at 7:00am. Yippee it is warmer. By the way, there are no clouds or wind and blue skies.
We plan to drive through Mataranka on our way to Katherine. We stopped at Mataranka for fuel and checked out the Territory Manor CP and Mataranka Cabins and CP, both look suitable for us. On our return trip, we will play it ear and stop where there is room. We arrived at Katherine Low Level CP about midday, I had to park outside the CP, because there were 5 vans checking in. I had to wait about 10 minutes to be served, I glanced outside and our rig was now inside the park, Marg had driven our rig, all by herself, she is brilliant. We setup camp and I reckon that we had the best site in the park, we had heaps of room, the mighty Navara is parked at the back of the site, and we have heaps of space to watch the world go bye.
We have Next G reception, Yippee, we are on the Internet.
Well, I am getting Marg's cold. Not happy, Jan. The temperature about 6pm tonight, was 31c. A bit warm.
Tomorrow, we plan to do bugger all.
